Word Finder
Word Finder — Search Words by Pattern & Wildcards
The Word Finder on WRDNWRD helps you discover words that match a specific
pattern. It’s ideal for crossword solvers, puzzle fans, and anyone who has
some letters but needs help completing the word. Use ? or
_ as single-character wildcards to represent unknown letters
(for example, c?t finds cat, cot,
cut). Results come from a curated server-side wordlist and are
filtered for common playable words.
Why use the Finder
When a puzzle gives you partial information — such as a pattern with fixed letters or blanks — manually testing possibilities is time-consuming. The Word Finder quickly finds all matches for your pattern, helping you solve clues faster and learn alternate word forms you might not have considered.
How to use
-
Type your pattern using letters and
?or_for unknowns (e.g.,_a_e). - Optionally set a minimum length to exclude short results.
- Click Find Words and review the paginated matches.
Examples
Pattern: c?t → cat, cot, cut.
Pattern: _a_e →
cake, care, gate, name.
Tips & best practices
-
Use multiple wildcards if you’re missing several letters (e.g.,
_a__e). - Combine with the Unscrambler when you also have a set of letters to use.
- Raise the minimum length to narrow results quickly when many matches appear.
FAQ
- Can I search multiple patterns?
- This page supports one pattern at a time. For multiple queries, run separate searches.
